The air is still and warm :: The house is quiet ::  February has come and gone.

My heart still aches for those who have lost so much in the bush fires this month.  The loss of lives and devastation is beyond comprehension, and i'm still lost for words.

I've been reminded how vulnerable we are, and how fragile life is.  I took it for granted that there would always be a 'tomorrow' for me.   But who knows what tomorrow will bring?  So, with the reality of those thoughts weighing heavy on my mind, i resolved that this would be a month of finishing the incomplete, and beginning things that have been in a state of suspension for far too long.

I enjoyed my daily beauty project more than i can say - the simple act of consciously taking a moment out of each day to notice and record the small pieces of beauty around me, has nourished my soul and brought with it a new humble appreciation for all that I am blessed with.  Thank you to everyone who took the time to visit my set - your response was overwhelming.

For many months,  Narrelle and I have been discussing the idea of a collaboration  - an opportunity to capture a moment from our day, to compare and appreciate our different photography styles and to share the simple delights in our worlds. two moments was created earlier this month - already it's proving to be an incredibly rewarding and inspiring project.  We would love you to stop by and visit sometime.

And, with butterflies in my stomach i opened my etsy shop!  It was a truly signicant and important step for me personally.  Thank you again for your support and wonderful emails filled with generous words, open feelings and warm hearts.

The air is cooler now ::  The house is still quiet :: I wish for sleep, and dreams and warmth and safety.

When i wake it will be a [new day] and a [new month] and a [new season].

At last my little etsy shop is open.

REMINDERS OF YESTERDAY

This set of small, colored dishes caught my eye.  Muted shades of orange, blue, yellow and brown.  I'm not sure of their age, but I recall, as a small girl admiring a set almost exactly the same in my mothers kitchen.  Maybe that's why I had to have them - they evoke memories filled with images and scents from a kitchen long, long ago....

BUTTERFLIES

This week has been one of reflection.

With mixed emotions I sent four of my children back to school.  Only four... McKay, my oldest,  has left school and started his apprenticeship as a chef.  While I anticipate all the delicious treats he is going to cook for me, I remember as if were only yesterday that he was a baby in my arms, small and defenceless - now he towers over me and is more independent than I am ready for him to be.  Cherish every moment with your small ones - it's true, time speeds by and they're not small for long.  Motherhood is bittersweet.

And once upon a time - in another life, i made things, i sewed things and then sold them to people who loved and appreciated them.  I left so much behind when I walked away from that life, some things I didn't want to let go of, but had no choice - and other things were put on 'hold' until opportunity or time allowed me to embrace them again.  So, the question begs to be asked - when is the 'right time' to begin, to start again?  I personally have no idea, and left to my own devices would continue to wait until a lightening bolt announced the arrival of that perfect moment!

Luckily, i have beautiful people who love me and remind me that now, today, is the perfect time.  Tomorrow is full of mystery and uncertainty and all that we can do is embrace the moment we live in.  So, i've decided to take the plunge and set up my own little twoandsix etsy store.  I'm looking forward to the adventure and plan to offer some of my stones for sale, just for starters - stay tuned, i'll let you know when i am open!  Thank you to everyone who has supported me and encouraged me to 'start again'...

Week 03/52
Delicate whisps of softness ::  downy filaments floating :: soft and frayed :: totems of exquisit sheen and colours :: black, chocolate, sepia, cinnamon, cream and white :: gentle whispers :: $1.00.

abundance

The heat is kinder to us today - a cool, gentle breeze flows through open windows.  Bunches of freshly picked basil rest in a glass jug on my window sill -  it's scent fills my kitchen, sweet and heady.

Of course, I must make pesto.

Simple ingredients combined :: garlic :: pine nuts :: parmesan cheese :: olive oil :: and handfuls of my frangrant green herb. Some eaten and shared immediately, the rest frozen - tucked away, to be relished when 'summer's gifts of abundance' pass, and the leaves start to fall.
